Cadeler completes first monopile installation at Hornsea 3 wind project

Cadeler A/S (OSE:CADLR), a Denmark-based installation services provider for the offshore wind industry, announced on Thursday the installation of the first fully commissioned monopile foundation at the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the UK for Danish renewable energy company Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED).

This milestone marks the start of Cadeler's transportation and installation scope covering 197 monopile foundations for the project.

Hornsea 3 is expected to become the world's largest offshore wind farm, with 2.9 GW of capacity, enough to supply renewable electricity to more than 3.3 million UK homes. The project also represents the first time Cadeler has undertaken the full transportation and installation scope for offshore monopile foundations.

The monopile installation was carried out by Cadeler's A-class vessel Wind Ally, while Wind Orca handled the installation of secondary steel. The commissioning scope was completed by service operation vessel ESVAGT FROUDE, operated by ESVAGT, with Boston Energy responsible for post-installation commissioning and completion activities.

Cadeler said it will deploy three specialist offshore wind installation vessels across the broader Hornsea 3 project, including Wind Ally, which was purpose-built for transporting and installing XXL monopile foundations.
