Wärtsilä to supply 36 balancing engines for Origem Energia projects in Brazil
Finnish marine and energy technology solutions company Wärtsilä Oyj Abp (HEL: WRT1V) announced on Wednesday it has signed two equipment supply contracts with Brazilian energy company Origem Energia for new balancing power projects.
The agreements cover 36 Wärtsilä 34SG engines, split into two batches of 18, booked in the first and second quarters of 2026.
The partnership follows Brazil's 2026 Reserve Capacity Auction, where Origem Energia secured projects due to start commercial operations between 2028 and 2029. These include the Pilar and Pilar Nova plants, scheduled for October 2028, and the Manguaba I-V projects, set for August 2029.
Deliveries will align with commissioning, supporting the provision of flexible capacity to the Brazilian grid as renewable generation expands. Origem Energia will use its onshore natural gas resources in Alagoas and underground gas storage to support the gas-to-wire model.
Wärtsilä said the contracts strengthen its role in Brazil's energy transition and create opportunities for future expansion and long-term services between the companies.
