Peab awarded SEK125m contract for sailing collision shield in Gothenburg
Nordic construction group Peab AB (STO: PEAB-B) said on Friday it has been commissioned by the City of Gothenburg to build a new sailing collision shield in the Göta River, in a contract valued at SEK125m.
The project forms part of an existing partnering agreement with Gothenburg City's Development Department and is intended to protect the new peninsula at Masthugg Dock. The shield is designed to prevent ships from colliding with the peninsula and support long-term development of the future district.
The structure will comprise two concrete caissons resting on approximately 80 wooden piles and secured with tubular steel piles.
Masthugg Dock is one of Gothenburg's largest ongoing urban development schemes, featuring two new parks, an expanded quayside and new public spaces. Completion of the wider area is expected around 2031.
The sailing collision shield will be delivered as a turnkey contract, with construction scheduled to begin in August 2026 and handover planned for summer 2028. The project will be order registered in Peab's Civil Engineering business area in the second quarter of 2026.
