Hot Key Books acquires M.A. Bennett dark academia duo
Publishing company Bonnier Books UK revealed on Monday that its imprint Hot Key Books has acquired two books from M.A. Bennett, including Scavengers, a YA dark academia thriller featuring a secret society, high-stakes thefts and a GBP1,000,001 prize.
Executive publisher Emma Matthewson acquired world all-language rights from Teresa Chris at Teresa Chris Literary Agency Ltd.
Scavengers tells the story of working-class Trinity Pascoe as she enters a secret society's summer-long treasure hunt, taking her and three allies through London's high society, stately homes, sporting events and royal palaces.
The challenges become increasingly dangerous as Trinity competes against wealthy student Wolfie Chatto, forcing her to decide how far she is prepared to go to win.
M.A. Bennett previously worked with Hot Key Books on her STAGS series and will reunite with Matthewson, who edited the series. Matthewson said the new book combines social and class issues with dark academia, compulsive plotting and high-society heist elements.
Scavengers will be published in paperback in June 2027, followed by the second book in 2028.
