Piccadilly Press acquires debut graphic novel series by Kirk Slater

Publishing company Bonnier Books UK revealed on Wednesday that its imprint Piccadilly Press has acquired world rights to The Non-Magical Adventures of Bella Crumb, a three-book graphic novel series by debut children's author and illustrator Kirk Slater.

Editorial director Ella Whiddett acquired the rights from literary agent Alice Williams of Alice Williams Literary. The series follows Bella Crumb, a would-be witch whose unreliable spells, grounded broom and grumpy cat familiar create chaos as she attempts to prove her magical abilities.

Described as Horrid Henry meets The Worst Witch, the series combines comic-strip storytelling with themes of imagination, determination and friendship. Bella becomes convinced that her grandmother is a powerful witch and sets herself one week to master magic and impress her.

The Non-Magical Adventures of Bella Crumb will be published in paperback in September 2027, with the second and third books scheduled for 2028 and 2029.
