Book publisher Faber declared on Tuesday that it has acquired Unsung: Trailblazing Women Musicians of the Second World War by Leah Broad in a two-book deal with John Ash of Creative Artists Agency. Faber acquired world all-language rights and will publish the book in February 2027.

Unsung explores the stories of pioneering women who entertained troops, fought secretly for their countries and sustained morale on the home front during the Second World War. The book features figures including Josephine Baker, Elly Ney, Myra Hess, Avril Coleridge-Taylor, Tatiana Vecheslova and Alma Rosé, alongside the International Sweethearts of Rhythm.

Broad is the author of Quartet: How Four Women Challenged the Musical World, which won the 2024 Royal Philharmonic Society Prize for Storytelling. She has also won the 2015 Observer/Anthony Burgess Prize for Arts Journalism and is a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker.
