Book publisher Faber reported on Monday that it plans to release a new book by journalist Darren Loucaides, titled Killer App: The Rise of Telegram and the Battle for the Future of the Internet, on 5 November 2026. Commissioning editor Mo Hafeez acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada and including audio, from Will Francis at Janklow & Nesbit (UK) Ltd.

The book examines Telegram, its Russian founder Pavel Durov and the platform's rapid growth to more than one billion users. It explores Telegram's privacy-focused and low-moderation approach, controversies surrounding content on the platform and the wider debate over whether technology executives should be held responsible for activity on their services.

Based on years of reporting and access to Durov's employees, friends and associates, the book also examines Telegram's operations and finances and efforts by governments and intelligence agencies to regulate the platform.

Loucaides is a London-born journalist based in Barcelona and a regular contributor to WIRED. He has written for the Financial Times, the Guardian and Rolling Stone and appeared on BBC, PRI and CBC radio. Killer App is his first book.
