Sweden-based traffic safety technology company Sensys Gatso Group AB (STO: SGG) said on Friday it has agreed a partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) for a Work Zone Safety Camera Pilot Program budgeted at USD800k, equivalent to SEK7.6m.

The initiative aims to educate drivers on speeding risks and reduce speeds in active highway work zones, forming part of MnDOT's wider efforts to protect roadway workers and motorists alike from serious injuries and fatalities on the road.

Sensys Gatso will deploy FLUX mobile speed safety cameras on battery-powered solar trailers across two corridors: Interstate 35W in Burnsville and Highway 65 between Cambridge and Braham. The company will also provide back-office processing and operational support through its Xilium platform.

The pilot will not issue citations or financial penalties. Instead, vehicle owners travelling 10 mph or more above posted work-zone limits will receive educational warnings developed by MnDOT's Toward Zero Deaths programme, with up to three escalating communications featuring images of vehicles and narratives on worker safety risks.

Digital engagement tools, including QR codes linking to educational materials, will supplement the campaign. MnDOT will monitor engagement, behaviour trends and speed-reduction data as part of a legislatively mandated evaluation of the pilot.

The pilot is expected to begin later this year alongside state-wide public outreach.
