Swedish construction group Skanska, working in a joint venture with US construction firm Stacy Witbeck, said on Friday it has signed a contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Van Nuys, California.

Skanska will book its USD957m share of the USD1.9bn contract, about SEK8.9bn, in the US order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.

The project involves building a 10.8-kilometre at-grade light rail line along Van Nuys Boulevard, a 10.5-hectare Rail and Maintenance Facility, and 11 new stations with shade structures and utility upgrades. It will connect high-density neighbourhoods to the wider Los Angeles County rail network and link with Metro's existing G-Line bus route.

Work has begun and completion is scheduled for December 2031.
