OpenLight and Tower Semiconductor expand PH18DA photonics ecosystem
Optical products manufacturer OpenLight and analog semiconductor solutions foundry Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ/TASE: TSEM) announced on Tuesday that they have expanded the PH18DA photonics ecosystem by making OpenLight's photonic Process Design Kit (PDK) for Tower Semiconductor's PH18DA indium phosphide (InP)-on-silicon photonics platform available in Cadence's electronic design automation (EDA) tools.
This integration enables customers to design photonic integrated circuits on Tower's PH18DA indium phosphide-on-silicon photonics platform within an established IC design environment, supporting faster development toward production.
The ecosystem combines OpenLight's photonics intellectual property, Tower's process and manufacturing capabilities, and Cadence's EDA tools to streamline photonic IC development and align it more closely with established electronic IC workflows.
Designs using OpenLight's PDK can be fabricated on Tower's PH18DA platform, which integrates active photonic components including lasers, modulators and amplifiers into a single monolithic photonic integrated circuit.
The platform supports optical systems for applications including optical interconnects, AI infrastructure and sensing.
