Scripps Howard Fund to match USD200,000 in donations for childhood literacy campaign
US-based media company The E.W. Scripps Company (NASDAQ: SSP) announced on Wednesday that The Scripps Howard Fund, a public charity established by the company, will match up to USD200,000 in donations made on 3 September to the "If You Give a Child a Book ..." campaign, an initiative which provides free books to children in low-income schools across the United States.
The company said a USD12 donation will supply four books instead of two. The campaign, supported by Scripps employees, communities and family members, distributes books to kindergarten through third grade students to help strengthen reading skills.
In partnership with Scholastic Books, the Fund delivers free book fairs to Title I schools nationwide, aiming to give each child ten books annually. During the 2024-25 academic year, the campaign invested a record USD1.5m in literacy, distributing more than 296,000 books.
The Scripps Howard Fund also supports journalism through scholarships, internships and First Amendment causes, alongside its annual literacy initiative.
