4th Estate to publish Jennette Mccurdy's debut novel in January 2026
Book publisher 4th Estate will publish Jennette McCurdy's debut novel Half His Age on 20 January 2026, book news company The Bookseller revealed on Friday.
The book was acquired in 2022 as part of a two-title deal, with details of the second novel yet to be announced.
Described as "startlingly perceptive, sharply funny and keenly poignant," Half His Age follows Waldo, a 17-year-old who embarks on an affair with her teacher, examining themes of desire, power and self-discovery.
McCurdy said writing the book allowed her to explore themes including class, loneliness, addiction, consumerism and the internet, describing the process as "the most creatively fulfilling experience" of her life.
Katie Bowden, editorial director at 4th Estate, called the novel "as witty as it is heartbreaking" and said it marks McCurdy's arrival as a "thrilling new voice in fiction."
