Shurgard secures permit for EUR16.6m self-storage project in Bonn
European self-storage provider Shurgard Self Storage Ltd (Euronext Brussels:SHUR) said on Wednesday that it has received a building permit for a new facility in Bonn, in Germany's North-Rhine-Westphalia region.
Located in the Bad Godesberg district, the project is a freehold, purpose-built property with strong visibility and accessibility.
The facility will cover approximately 7,200 square metres and provide more than 1,000 secure self-storage units. Opening is scheduled for 2026, with the total project cost estimated at EUR16.6m and an expected yield at maturity of around 9%.
This development will complement Shurgard's two existing sites in southern Bonn and expand its current portfolio of 45 properties in Germany.
Around 80% of Shurgard's German portfolio is concentrated in the country's "Big Seven" cities. The company is also advancing nine additional developments across Frankfurt, North-Rhine-Westphalia, Berlin, and Stuttgart. These projects are set to deliver about 60,100 square metres of new capacity between 2025 and 2027, representing a 27% expansion of Shurgard's footprint in Germany.
