Duolingo launches 148 new language courses, expanding access to popular languages

Language learning platform Duolingo (NASDAQ:DUOL) on Wednesday announced the launch of 148 new language courses, marking the largest content expansion in the company's history and more than doubling its current offering.

The update makes Duolingo's seven most popular non-English languages -- Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin -- available across all 28 supported user interface languages.

This initiative significantly broadens access for over one billion potential learners worldwide, especially for users in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Historically, developing a single course took years; however, advances in generative AI and internal tools enabled the company to create and launch the new suite within a year.

Duolingo's new "shared content" approach allows rapid customisation of high-quality base courses across multiple languages.

Most of the new courses support beginner levels (CEFR A1-A2) and include immersive features such as Stories and DuoRadio to enhance reading and listening comprehension. More advanced content is expected to roll out in the coming months.

The expansion strengthens Duolingo's global footprint and responds to rising demand for Asian languages, particularly Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.
