Landsvirkjun selects AFRY for Iceland's first utility-scale wind farm

Swedish engineering, design and advisory services company AFRY (STO:AFRY) announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Landsvirkjun, Iceland's state-owned energy company, for owner's engineering services on the Búrfell wind farm, Iceland's first utility-scale wind power project.

Located in southern Iceland, the wind farm will consist of 28 turbines with a combined capacity of 120 MW, utilizing existing Búrfell hydropower infrastructure to reduce costs and environmental impact.

Since 2023, AFRY has provided technical advisory services, including wind farm layout design, energy yield assessments and procurement support, resulting in Enercon's selection as turbine supplier. As the project moves into construction, AFRY will oversee the balance of plant design and collaborate with local firms to ensure efficient execution.

Construction commenced in autumn 2024, with completion targeted for 2027.
