HarperCollins India to release Anand Neelakantan's Many Ramayanas, Many Lessons

HarperCollins India, a subsidiary of HarperCollins Publishers, on Monday announced the upcoming release of Many Ramayanas, Many Lessons by bestselling author Anand Neelakantan, available for pre-order ahead of its launch on 15 January 2025.

The book delves into the plurality of the Ramayana, exploring its evolution across centuries, cultures and languages. Neelakantan combines captivating stories and incisive commentary to examine Valmiki's original narrative and how it has been reinterpreted in diverse traditions. Unique perspectives include versions where Sita is portrayed as Ravana's daughter or where the Lakshmana Rekha is absent, highlighting the epic's adaptability and enduring relevance.

Neelakantan aims to revive interest in lesser-known Ramayana traditions, showcasing their universal lessons and the cultural richness they embody. The book is based on his popular audiobook of the same name, blending rigorous research with his signature storytelling style.

Ridhima Kumar, Commissioning Editor at HarperCollins India, described the work as groundbreaking, celebrating the epic's multiplicity and offering fresh insights for modern readers.

Anand Neelakantan, known for his bestselling works Asura and Vanara, has also penned scripts for TV series such as Siya Ke Ram and Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat. With a track record of reimagining Indian mythology, he brings decades of expertise to this ambitious project.

HarperCollins India, a leading publisher with a portfolio of award-winning titles, continues its tradition of delivering transformative works with Many Ramayanas, Many Lessons.
