Rebellion Publishing's Solaris acquires Joan Tierney eco-fantasy debut for UK release
Book publisher Rebellion Publishing revealed on Friday that its imprint Solaris has acquired UK and British Commonwealth English-language rights, excluding Canada, to Joan Tierney's debut eco-fantasy novel What Comes From Picking Flowers. Rights were acquired by Amy Borsuk from Lauren Bajek at Liza Dawson Agency.
Described as combining elements of Nettle & Bone and The River Has Roots, the novel follows a young woman travelling through magical realms to rescue one of her three long-lost sisters from the King of Misery. The title is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 in the UK, while it will debut in North America as Misery's Wife through Flatiron Books in Summer 2026.
Author Joan Tierney, a Virginia-based writer and flight attendant, said the novel was a "labour of love" dedicated to sisterhood. Acquiring editor Amy Borsuk said the book combines "fantastical adventure" with themes of hope and family. The cover was designed by Sam Gretton.
Rebellion Publishing, founded in 2000 by Chris and Jason Kingsley, is the publishing division of games developer Rebellion and operates imprints including Abaddon Books and Solaris Books.
