Canongate acquires graphic novel adaptation of Matt Haig's The Midnight Library
Publishing company Canongate Books will publish a graphic novel adaptation of The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, illustrated and adapted by Fred Fordham, with release scheduled for October 2026, book news company The Bookseller revealed on Monday.
Francis Bickmore acquired world rights to the adaptation from Jenny Savill at Nurnberg Associates. The announcement was made during the inaugural Matt Haig Summit on 8 March, where Canongate Books hosted more than 40 of Haig's international publishers to discuss global publishing strategies and plans for the release of The Midnight Train, the author's forthcoming novel due in hardback in May 2026.
The publisher also revealed plans for a special silver paperback edition of The Midnight Library for the United Kingdom trade, which will include the first chapter of The Midnight Train. More than 12 million copies of The Midnight Library have been sold worldwide.
Fred Fordham said adapting the novel had been a rewarding process given the clarity and structure of Matt Haig's storytelling, while Francis Bickmore described the 2026 summit as an opportunity to collaborate with international publishers and build momentum for the upcoming release of The Midnight Train.
