Nokia launches mission-safe phone and upgraded 5G tactical radio for defence sector

Finnish telecoms, IT and consumer electronics company Nokia Oyj (HEL:NOKIA) (NYSE:NOK) said on Tuesday that it has expanded its defence portfolio with the introduction of the Mission-Safe Phone and an upgraded Banshee 5G Tactical Radio, aimed at strengthening secure, mission-critical communications for military operations.

Both solutions are designed to deliver resilience, reliability, and high performance in demanding environments.

The Mission-Safe Phone is a purpose-built defence smartphone featuring a long-lifecycle Qualcomm chipset and an open, customisable platform to support new applications and accessories. Built to MIL-Standard 810H and IP68 certifications, the device provides durability, strong security, and mission readiness.

Three versions will be available, each tailored for different operational needs, and the phone integrates seamlessly with Nokia's tactical communications portfolio.

Complementary audio solutions from Savox Communications enhance performance in high-noise environments, while compatibility with Nokia's 4G and 5G tactical systems supports data-intensive applications such as multimedia and real-time intelligence sharing.

Nokia also unveiled its upgraded Banshee 5G Tactical Radio, a portable and secure "network in a box" designed for rapid deployment. Now equipped with 5G, the system offers higher bandwidth, faster speeds, and lower latency, enabling improved coordination, data transfer, and situational awareness in the field.
