Penguin Random House announces publication of the first memoir by a sitting Pope, titled HOPE

Publishing company Penguin Random House announced on Friday that it has released HOPE, the groundbreaking autobiography of Pope Francis, marking the first memoir authored by a sitting pontiff.

The book is edited by Molly Turpin, Senior Editor at Random House. It is available in over 80 countries and major languages, coinciding with the Jubilee of Hope. An audiobook version, narrated in English, was simultaneously published by Penguin Random House Audio.

Co-written with Carlo Musso, founder of Libreria Pienogiorno, the memoir was originally intended for posthumous publication but was expedited following the Pope's announcement of the 2025 Jubilee of Hope. HOPE chronicles Pope Francis's life journey, blending personal experiences with reflections on faith, memory and the collective human spirit.

Pope Francis describes the memoir as "the story of a journey of hope... the book of those who have traveled with me, of those who came before, of those who will follow."

The narrative is enriched with private photographs, including unpublished material provided by the Pope, offering readers a deeply personal insight into his life.

Destined to resonate globally, HOPE stands as a powerful legacy of faith, unity and optimism for future generations.
