Coventry -- Colleagues in our Housing and Homelessness Team have been linking with Sky Blues in the Community to host a World Cup-inspired football tournament recently.

The team has supported hundreds of people facing homelessness at a vulnerable time in their lives, and some of these residents have been victims of domestic abuse.

Ailish Whitehouse, Supported Accommodation Manager, said: "We organised the games because the World Cup has been linked to a significant increase in domestic abuse incidents, particularly when England's performance is at stake.

"Sky Blues in the Community were kind enough to set this up for us, and because we help many people who have been affected by domestic abuse, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind people about the relationship between football and domestic abuse."

Here are some key statistics:

* 38% increase in domestic abuse incidents when England loses a World Cup game.

* 26% increase in domestic abuse incidents when England wins a World Cup game.

* 25% increase in domestic abuse incidents during all matches and for three hours after full-time, regardless of the team's performance.
