Arboretum Books launches independent publishing venture focused on European literature
Publishing company Arboretum Books has launched as an independent publisher specialising in contemporary European literature in translation, aiming to introduce acclaimed international writers to English-language readers, book news company The Bookseller revealed on Wednesday.
Founded by Tobias Nolte and Kate Ambler between Hebden Bridge and London, the publisher plans to release four to six titles annually. Its debut publication, Red Skies by Charlotte Gneuß, is scheduled for October, followed by Adikou by Raphaëlle Red and Mama Odessa by Maxim Biller in November, with the German Book Prize-winning Blue Woman by Antje Rávik Strubel due subsequently.
Arboretum Books said it was established to address gaps in translated fiction availability and highlight writers whose work has not yet reached English-language audiences. The publisher will focus on works rooted in specific cultures and histories while exploring broader human experiences.
