Xilam Films greenlights animated adaptation of The Wolf

French animation studio Xilam Films (Euronext Growth Paris:ALXIL) announced on Monday that it has greenlit The Wolf, an adult-targeted animated psychological thriller adapted from Jean-Marc Rochette's graphic novel of the same name.

Set in the Alps, the story follows a solitary shepherd driven by loss who embarks on a revenge quest after a wolf attacks his flock, pushing him into a confrontation with grief and guilt. The original graphic novel by Jean-Marc Rochette, published by Editions Casterman, is part of a trilogy that has sold 450,000 copies in France and follows Rochette's broader success with Snowpiercer, later adapted into film and television formats.

The Wolf combines 3D animation with traditional drawing techniques, aiming to achieve a live-action aesthetic with a painterly visual style. It is co-written and directed by Benjamin Massoubre and Fursy Tessier, with Sabine Dabadie as co-writer, and will be led in voice performance by Roschdy Zem and Virginie Efira.

Delivery of The Wolf is scheduled for April 2027.

The Wolf is produced by Xilam's Marc du Pontavice, and co-produced by Lilian Eche for Bidibul Productions (Luxemburg), with Goodfellas handling international sales, ARP managing theatrical distribution in France, and Crunchyroll pre-buying worldwide SVOD rights excluding China and Japan.

The project is supported by multiple public and regional funding bodies, including Film Fund Luxembourg, CNC animation support, and regional French authorities.
