* Charity 'bowled over' as Grennan collab lands 1m+ impressions at launch

It's the tear-jerking new Christmas film that has been described as "emotional" by the media, and racked up well over one million views on social media.

The 90-second Christmas film stars a dog recently rescued and rehomed by the RSPCA, and is part of a new collaboration with British singer-songwriter Tom Grennan - released to his stunning single 'You Are Not Alone'.

The RSPCA says they are "bowled over" by the response to the film - which has chalked up more than 1.1million views on social media and has already been praised in the press.

Alan Laxton, Broadcast Manager at the RSPCA, said: "The response to our new film has been amazing - we are totally bowled over by how much it has resonated with people.

"Tom Grennan's 'You Are Not Alone' is the perfect soundtrack - the lyrics and our film combine to highlight how people feel about animals, and the special, and often life changing, bond we can share with our pets.

"Pets are part of the family, and the loss of an animal can have a profound impact. But our amazing animal centres work hard to find loving new homes for animals rescued from cruelty and neglect - connecting them with the perfect owners all throughout the year.

"Our Big Give Back to Animals appeal is raising vital money for our frontline teams - raising vital funds to bring more animals to safety, and into loving new homes."

In the film, a man struggles to cope with the loss of his dog. He goes to donate his lost companion's old toys to the RSPCA - before meeting and falling instantly in love with a rescue dog he sees at the RSPCA's Brighton & Heart of Sussex Branch centre, where the video is filmed.

The Christmas collaboration comes as RSPCA predicts a tough Winter period ahead for many animals - with calls about animal abandonment rising by 23% in the first ten months of this year.

In response, Grennan has given his backing to The Big Give Back to Animals appeal - which aims to rescue more animals from situations of abandonment and neglect; and get them into new loving homes.

Grennan, who has had three number one albums, is a mental health advocate and animal lover. His lyrics resonate strongly with the unique bond many people across the country have with their pets - including the line: "A simple act of kindness can save somebody's life".

Tom said: "I'm a passionate advocate for both mental well-being and animal welfare, so I'm really pleased and proud to support the RSPCA's Winter Appeal with my song, You Are Not Alone. The connection between people and animals is special.

One of the many dogs rescued by the RSPCA in recent times stars in the video - cocker spaniel Betty.

She was left living outside in poor conditions in the Chesterfield area, while her owner was on holiday.

An RSPCA investigation led to the discovery of her chronic ear infections and heavy matting, which caused wet dermatitis lesions under her matted fur.

But Betty was rehabilitated at the charity's Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch - and has now found her loving forever home with new owner Sara Howlett. Their connection was instantaneous - in a similar way to what is shown in the film.

Sara said: "I'd lost my previous cocker spaniel Archie in March, and didn't think I was ready for another dog - but I stumbled across her page on the RSPCA website. Cocker spaniels don't come up for adoption that often - but as soon as I saw her photo, it was literally love at first sight.

"I chatted with my partner Craig, and before we knew it, we were driving the 444-mile round trip to Chesterfield to meet Betty!

"She is just the sweetest dog - it is heartbreaking to think what she went through before and that she and another dog were left alone outside. But now she's just so happy snuggled up on the sofa, as close to me as possible!

"I couldn't imagine life without Betty now. We have just fallen head over heels in love with her - and she's such a big part of our lives. She really likes people and loves other dogs, and kids she's great with too. She's so friendly - you're not alone when Betty is around!"

Tom added: "This winter, thousands of neglected and abandoned animals, like Betty, desperately need rescuing. By joining together to support the RSPCA, we can help save them."

Betty was one of 26,167 animals rehomed by the RSPCA in 2024.

The charity specialises in rescuing animals from cruelty and neglect - and finding them loving new homes. It hopes The Big Give Back to Animals appeal will support its frontline rescue teams at a time when reports of dumped animals have skyrocketed.

Reports of animals being abandoned have shot up this year - with the charity hearing about 23 percent more incidents in the first ten months of 2025 when compared to last year.

The charity has also seen reports of neglect rise by 30 percent over the same period - with the emergency line taking 73,294 reports up to the end of October.

RSPCA superintendent Simon Osborne said: "We want to get more animals like Betty away from situations of cruelty and neglect and into loving new homes.

"But we know not all animals are so lucky. Reports of abandonment are hitting their highest in six years, and neglect calls are soaring too - meaning RSPCA officers are needed responding to emergencies now more than ever.

"Every pound and penny people give goes towards creating a better world for every kind of animal, and means we can help countless more animals escape hopeless situations of cruelty and neglect, and find their own loving home, ensuring they too are not alone."

Grennan, from Bedford, has had three UK number one albums - including the 2025 smash Everywhere I Went, Led Me to Where I Didn't Want to Be. In September, he toured the UK and Republic of Ireland - playing 11 gigs in 17 days.
