Valmet to deliver automation for Helen's Patola heat pump and electric boilers

Finnish industrial technology company Valmet Oyj (HEL: VALMT) said on Friday that it will supply an automation system for energy company Helen Ltd's Patola heat production complex under construction in Helsinki, Finland.

The Patola facility includes one air-to-water heat pump plant and two electric boilers. Valmet said that, when completed, the plant will be the world's largest air-to-water heat pump facility, with around 30 MW of heating capacity, supporting Helen Ltd's low-emission district heating network.

The project comprises an industrial-scale air-to-water heat pump of about 30 MW and two 50 MW electric boilers, using outdoor air as a heat source and CO2 as the refrigerant, designed to operate efficiently at temperatures down to -20°C. Combined annual heat generation is expected to exceed 500 GWh, cutting emissions by more than 56,000 tonnes.

Valmet will also deliver its Distributed Control System, including the web-based Valmet DNAe user interface, to monitor and control the heat pump and boilers.

The order, value undisclosed, is included in Valmet's fourth-quarter 2025 orders received. Production is scheduled to begin in the 2026-2027 heating season, and the delivery is scheduled to be taken over by the customer in March 2027.
