NKT selected as preferred bidder for UK high-voltage interconnector project
Danish power cable manufacturer NKT A/S (CPH:NKT) revealed on Monday that it has been named preferred bidder for the Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) offshore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector by SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission.
The project will involve a 525 kV HVDC power cable system spanning approximately 680 km of onshore and offshore routes, linking the electricity grids of Scotland and England. EGL3 is a core element of the UK's investment programme to modernise the transmission network, enhance resilience, and deliver clean, reliable energy.
The parties are currently negotiating terms with the goal of finalising a firm contract. The interconnector is expected to play a central role in strengthening the UK's electricity supply and supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
