HarperCollins' Amistad imprint to publish new Walter Mosley novel in 2026

Consumer book publisher HarperCollins Publishers revealed on Tuesday that its imprint Amistad has acquired world rights to Walter Mosley's forthcoming novel Ghalen: A Romance in Black, scheduled for release on 12 May 2026. The deal was secured by Editorial Director Abby West through Gloria Loomis of Watkins/Loomis Agency.

Mosley, acclaimed for his Easy Rawlins and King Oliver mystery series, positions Ghalen as a story of love, family and identity within Black America. The novel follows Ghalen, a young Black man shaped by his parents' extraordinary relationship, and explores themes of ambition, belonging, and discovery.

With more than 60 books published across genres, Mosley has had multiple works adapted for screen, including The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey on Apple TV+ and The Man in My Basement, set for release this autumn by Disney's (NYSE: DIS) Hulu. His work has garnered major literary honours, including the PEN America Lifetime Achievement Award and the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award.

HarperCollins, a subsidiary of News Corp (Nasdaq: NWS, NWSA) (ASX: NWS, NWSLV), operates in 15 countries and publishes around 10,000 new titles annually. Amistad, its dedicated imprint for Black voices, has a four-decade history of amplifying leading authors including Zora Neale Hurston, Edward P. Jones, Cicely Tyson and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.
