Barthel Named Managing Partner, Strategic Advisor Recruiting at MAI Capital Management

US-based registered investment advisor MAI Capital Management has hired Matt Barthel, who will join as a Managing Partner, Strategic Advisor Recruiting, the firm said.

He will be charged with driving inorganic business development initiatives to expand MAI's reach across the United States and grow the firm's network of financial advisors.

Barthel brings nearly 35 years of experience in journalism and 20 years of experience in wealth-management data operations to MAI, including roles at Barron's where he oversaw the outlet's industry-leading financial advisor rankings.

As MAI continues its nationwide expansion following its majority investment from Carlyle, Barthel will be instrumental in the firm's efforts to identify and onboard new advisor teams that share MAI's client-first culture.

Barthel will report directly to Managing Partner Jim Kacic and work alongside the firm's Business Development team to drive strategic growth in key markets, with a particular focus on advisor lift-outs.

Barthel joined MAI effective October 12, 2026.
