Nokia launches flexible multi-PON solution to support AI-ready fibre broadband
Finnish telecoms, IT and consumer electronics company Nokia Oyj (HEL:NOKIA) (NYSE:NOK) on Monday unveiled a high-density fibre access line card supporting GPON, 10G, 25G and 50G PON on all 16 ports, enabling operators to upgrade network capacity as demand evolves while reducing deployment risks.
Built on Nokia's Quillion chipset and multi-PON optical modules, the solution supports flexible technology combinations across existing fibre infrastructure, allowing operators to introduce higher speeds without replacing the underlying port.
This launch addresses growing network requirements driven by artificial intelligence, increased cloud interaction, richer content and rising upstream traffic. Nokia said the solution delivers up to four times lower upstream latency, quantum-safe encryption and authentication, and end-to-end resilience without a single point of failure.
The platform provides an upgrade path from GPON and 10G PON to 25G and 50G PON, enabling operators to align investment with changing market needs. General availability is planned for 2027.
