Suffolk Artist Wins Prestigious National Climate Art Prize Backed by King Charles
As the climate crisis escalates, visual art is stepping into the frontline of activism. Simon Page has just been awarded the 2026 NEAC Climate Emergency Prize for his provocative piece, The End of Babel. Judged by a panel of renowned artists including Anne Desmet RA and Bob and Roberta Smith RA, and presented by Sir Jonathon Porritt, the artwork serves as a powerful visual manifesto on environmental emergency, currently headlining the NEAC 140th Anniversary Exhibition in London.
The NEAC Climate Emergency Prize, which carries a £2000 award, recognizes contemporary artists who use their practice to engage rigorously with environmental crises. Under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Charles III, the prize is heavily focused on sustainability and tradition colliding with modern urgency.
The winning artwork, titled The End of Babel, is a large ink collage that addresses human impact on the environment, the consequences of human excess and hubris, and shows the human world in a state of disintegration, a tower in the process of collapse, a crumbling edifice, taken down by humanity's rage and self-destructive drive, and all around it, nature reclaiming and returning the materials to the land and to the sea. Full of rich detail and symbolism, the work is a forceful and compelling wake-up call.
Selected from thousands of submissions nationwide, the piece is currently on public display at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London as a centrepiece of the New English Art Club's (NEAC) landmark 140th Anniversary Exhibition.
The NEAC 140th Anniversary Exhibition runs daily at the Mall Galleries (The Mall, London, SW1Y 5BD) until 20 June 2026. Admission is £7.00, and the gallery is open from 10AM to 5 PM. Visitors can view Simon Page's winning piece alongside works by some of the UK's most distinguished figurative artists.
The winning picture, 'The End of Babel', will be on show to the public at Snape Maltings (Snape, Suffolk, IP17 1SP) Saturday 25 July - Sunday 30 August. Admission: free Open daily: 10AM - 6PM
