Nigerian National War College Delegation Visits Indian Register of Shipping
A delegation from the Nigerian National War College visited Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) as part of its study programme aimed at understanding India's maritime ecosystem, classification services, defence shipbuilding initiatives, and emerging developments in sustainable shipping.
The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to gain insights into the role played by IRS in supporting the maritime sector through ship classification, certification, technical assurance, training, and innovation-driven services.
The programme commenced with a comprehensive corporate presentation highlighting IRS's journey, global footprint, technical capabilities, and contributions to the maritime sector. This was followed by a session on alternative fuels and the maritime industry's transition towards decarbonisation, covering developments in low-carbon and zero-carbon fuel technologies, regulatory frameworks, and the challenges associated with their adoption.
The delegation was also briefed on IRS's involvement in defence and strategic projects, including its support to indigenous naval and defence shipbuilding programmes. The presentation highlighted IRS's role in providing classification, certification, design appraisal, and technical support services for various defence platforms. The delegation showed keen interest in services of Indian Register of Shipping towards supporting indigenous defence shipbuilding programme of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard.
An overview of IRClass Academy's activities was also presented, showcasing its training and capacity-building programmes designed to enhance maritime competency, safety, and professional development across the industry.
