Norwegian regulator clears NorgesGruppen acquisition of NMD
Norwegian retail group NorgesGruppen ASA (OSE:NORG) announced on Tuesday that the Norwegian Competition Authority has approved its acquisition of pharmaceuticals and healthcare products supplier Norsk Medisinaldepot AS (NMD), including the Vitusapotek and Ditt Apotek pharmacy chains, from McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK).
Completion of the transaction is scheduled for 31 January 2026.
Following the acquisition, one of Norway's three major pharmacy chains will be owned by a Norwegian company.
NMD operates 391 pharmacies nationwide and employs more than 3,000 people including wholesale operations. It will continue as an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of NorgesGruppen.
Runar Hollevik, CEO of NorgesGruppen, said that this transaction strengthens pharmaceutical preparedness and access to pharmacy products across Norway.
