CMB.TECH invests in Chinese green ammonia supply chain

Tanker company CMB.TECH NV (Euronext Brussels:CMBT) (NYSE:CMBT) (OSE:CMBTO) on Tuesday announced investments in China's ammonia supply chain through an off-take agreement for green ammonia from CEEC Hydrogen Energy in Jilin Province and a minority stake in Jiangsu Andefu Energy Technology Co Ltd, one of China's largest ammonia supply chain companies.

Under the CEEC Songyuan project, CMB.TECH will purchase renewable ammonia from a facility with planned annual production of approximately 158,000 tonnes, which completed construction in September 2025 and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in January 2026.

The project is powered primarily by off-grid renewable energy with battery and hydrogen buffer storage, has been audited by Bureau Veritas, and received ISCC EU RFNBO certification on 2 December 2025.

The investment in Andefu establishes an industrial partnership to support maritime decarbonisation and the development of green ammonia infrastructure, including a 49,000 m3 low-temperature ammonia storage tank in Nanjing expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2026.

Andefu and CEEC plan to bring an ammonia storage terminal in Panjin into operation in the second half of 2027 and are advancing ship-to-ship ammonia bunkering targeting commercial deployment in 2026. CMB.TECH is also preparing to deploy 11 ammonia-powered vessels in 2026, comprising ten Newcastlemax bulk carriers and one 1,400 TEU container ship, all equipped with dual-fuel diesel-ammonia engines to support the use of green ammonia as a zero-CO2 shipping fuel.
