Update #4 - Dunedin Weather Event
Last updated: 28 Jun 2025 10:34am
With heavy rain forecast throughout the day and some road closures in place, the Dunedin City Council is reminding residents to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel.
The MetService Orange rain warning for Dunedin is still in place, with MetService forecasting an additional 20 to 30mm of rain over the next 11 hours until 9pm tonight.
DCC General Manager Climate and City Growth Scott MacLean says the network coped well with the heavy rainfall overnight.
"Contractors responded to isolated incidents of ponding overnight. Our teams are inspecting the network for damage and flooding, and there are some temporary road closures in place.
"All Council grounds are closed today for the public apart from the Logan Park artificial turfs and some premier rugby and travelling teams that have been moved to sand based fields.
"Staff and contractors will continue to monitor the network over the weekend. We expect this to be our last update on this weather event."
