NCC and LKAB expand partnership for new sorting plant in Vitåfors

Swedish construction companies NCC announced on Friday that it has signed an additional partnering agreement with LKAB for a development project in the Swedish Ore Fields.

The agreement covers the construction of a new sorting plant at LKAB's Vitåfors facility in Gällivare. The existing plant has reached the end of its service life and will be replaced with a new facility spanning approximately 24,000 square meters.

During the initial phase, planning and engineering work will be conducted, including rock excavation to create space for the new plant. Subsequent steps involve foundation engineering and earthworks before construction begins. A construction contract is expected to be signed at the start of building work.

In June 2024, NCC and LKAB also entered a partnering agreement for the direct reduction plant and associated infrastructure at Malmberget. The NCC Green Industry Transformation business area is overseeing the agreement and related work.
