Digitalbox acquires Walford News; Confirms CFO appointment
Mobile-first digital media business Digitalbox plc (AIM: DBOX) announced on Wednesday that it has acquired the online assets of Walford News for GBP50,000.
This acquisition includes the Walford News website and its Walford East Facebook page, which has approximately 475,000 followers. Walford News specialises in news and spoilers for the UK soap opera Eastenders.
The acquisition supports Digitalbox's 'Verticals Strategy', focusing on targeted entertainment content that drives high engagement on platforms like Google and Facebook. The newly acquired assets complement Digitalbox's existing portfolio, particularly its Entertainment Daily brand. A five-month transitional agreement has been established to ensure smooth integration, with alignment of content and editorial operations scheduled for early 2025.
Also, Richard Spilsbury will join Digitalbox as chief financial officer and company secretary on 1 January 2025. Spilsbury brings extensive leadership experience and currently holds directorships at Fourth Floor Group Limited and Cloudfind Limited, among others.
Digitalbox operates multiple brands, including Entertainment Daily, The Daily Mash, The Tab and Emmerdale Insider. The company's mobile-optimized model generates significant advertising revenue by achieving industry-leading revenue per session metrics.
