Legacy Lit to publish political memoir by former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre

Hachette Book Group's Legacy Lit imprint has acquired world rights to 'Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines' by Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary and senior advisor to President Joe Biden.

Scheduled for release on 21 October 2025, the book will be published in hardcover, ebook, and audio formats.

Krishan Trotman, vice president and publisher of Legacy Lit, acquired the rights from Steve Troha at Folio Literary Management, LLC.

Jean-Pierre's memoir examines America's two-party political system, advocating for independent thought and voter autonomy. The book details her decision to leave the Democratic Party, shaped by her experiences under Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

She recounts key moments, including the three weeks leading to Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 race and her perspective on what she describes as a betrayal by the Democratic Party.

Positioned as a call to action, Independent urges Americans to vote based on values rather than party loyalty.

Jean-Pierre, a Columbia University graduate, previously held senior roles in both the Obama and Biden administrations and served as chief public affairs officer for MoveOn.org.
