Faber to release Jenny Uglow's biography of Gilbert White in 2025
Book publisher Faber announced on Wednesday that it has acquired rights to publish A Year with Gilbert White: The First Great Nature Writer, a new work by acclaimed biographer Jenny Uglow.
UK, Commonwealth (excluding Canada), and EU rights were secured by Publisher Alex Bowler from Zoe Waldie at Rogers, Coleridge and White.
Scheduled for release on 11 September 2025, the book explores a single year - 1781 - from the journal of Gilbert White, an 18th-century naturalist renowned as the father of ecology. White's detailed observations in The Natural History of Selborne, published in 1789, have remained influential for over two centuries.
Uglow, recipient of an OBE in 2008 and former editorial director at Chatto & Windus, brings her award-winning narrative style to White's life, offering a vivid portrait of his natural world and intellectual legacy.
